Before/After school programs
Initiated January 2007, GUAS worked with each of the cohort Elementary and High Schools to select GUAS grade level English and Math Classroom teachers to provide tutoring services for students who attend the after-school homework sessions.
In year-one and two GUAS contracted 54 cohort classroom teachers from the 13 Elementary schools. In Year-three GUAS has worked with 42 High School classroom teachers to work three days a week for two hours per session to provide the homework assistance in Math and English. After or before-school sessions were provided at all cohort schools.

Data collected from the first semester indicate that nearly 400 continuing GUAS students attended at least one session. Of the 399 cohort students that attended at least one session, the average student attended 66% of the offered sessions and received 75 hours of assistance. Additionally, 153 non-GUAS students took advantage of after school sessions at least once and attended approximately 50% of the offered sessions, receiving 42 hours of extra assistance. In February 2009, several schools have implemented a before-school program for students who are unable to attend the after school sessions. Additionally, GUAS has created an incentive system for every six sessions that a student attends. As a result, schools are seeing significant increases in attendance.
